The Trouble With Magnesium and Migraines
Getting magnesium supplementation right can make the difference between magnificent relief from migraine headaches or no benefit at all. In the Wheat Belly, now the Undoctored program, we use the best form of magnesium available, magnesium bicarbonate, that we make ourselves using the Magnesium Water recipe. But it is important to recognize that, even if you have a normal blood level of magnesium, profound magnesium deficiency can be present and will sustain migraine headaches. Long-term consistent use is therefore crucial for effect. Magnesium Water: https://blog.undoctored.com/magnesium-water-undoctored-style/ About Undo...

African power plant relieves migraine
I treat a lot of different kinds of chronic pain at my clinic. The patients most desperate for relief are the migraine sufferers. If you get migraines, you know they can knock you out for days at a time. The World Health Organization says migraines are to blame for more lost years of healthy life than multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, ovarian cancer and tuberculosis combined.1 But mainstream medicine knows very little about the cause of migraines or how to treat them. Most doctors prescribe Imitrex. That’s a drug to help relieve headaches, pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound.  But Imitrex can actually caus...

Migraine Headache Prophylaxis.
Abstract Migraines impose significant health and financial burdens. Approximately 38% of patients with episodic migraines would benefit from preventive therapy, but less than 13% take prophylactic medications. Preventive medication therapy reduces migraine frequency, severity, and headache-related distress. Preventive therapy may also improve quality of life and prevent the progression to chronic migraines. Some indications for preventive therapy include four or more headaches a month, eight or more headache days a month, debilitating headaches, and medication-overuse headaches. Identifying and managing environmen...

Mitochondrial Dysfunction in Migraine
Migraine is the most frequent type of headache in children. In the 1980s, scientists first hypothesized a connection between migraine and mitochondrial (mt) disorders. More recent studies have suggested that at least some subtypes of migraine may be related to a mt defect. Different types of evidence support a relationship between mitochondria (mt) and migraine: (1) Biochemical evidence: Abnormal mt function translates into high intracellular penetration of Ca2+, excessive production of free radicals, and deficient oxidative phosphorylation, which ultimately causes energy failure in neurons and astrocytes, thus triggering ...

Menstrual Migraine and Treatment Options: Review.
CONCLUSION: MM can be very difficult to treat. For acute treatments, rizatriptan has the best overall evidence. For short-term prevention, frovatriptan, zolmitriptan, or naratriptan, as well as magnesium, estrogen, naproxen sodium, or dihydroergotamine may be useful. Assessing the efficacy of magnesium oxide and riboflavin as preventative treatment of migraines in pregnancy
Most women with migraines experience improvement during pregnancy. When migraines persist and preventative treatment is desired, choosing appropriate medical therapy is challenging due to the paucity of safety data. Our institution has used magnesium oxide (MgOx) as first line for migraine prophylaxis in obstetric patients since 2005, yet there have been no published studies on its efficacy. When needed, riboflavin is added before considering alternatives. The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of MgOx and riboflavin as preventative treatment of episodic migraines in pregnancy.

Pharmacological interventions for acute attacks of vestibular migraine
CONCLUSIONS: The evidence for interventions used to treat acute attacks of vestibular migraine is very sparse. We identified only two studies, both of which assessed the use of triptans. We rated all the evidence as very low-certainty, meaning that we have little confidence in the effect estimates and cannot be sure if triptans have any effect on the symptoms of vestibular migraine. Although we identified sparse information on potential harms of treatment in this review, the use of triptans for other conditions (such as headache migraine) is known to be associated with some adverse effects. We did not identify any placebo-...
